Ocala, FL — The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has approved another residency program at Ocala Regional Medical Center, part of the University of Central Florida College of Medicine/Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) Graduate Medical Education Consortium Program.
Ocala Regional Medical Center's General Surgery Residency Program has met substantial compliance with ACGME requirements and has received a status of "Initial Accreditation" as noted in a letter from Donna Lamb, Executive Director, Surgical Accreditation, the Residency Review Committee for Surgery.
The hospital's leadership team will welcome its inaugural class of 6 residents in July 2017 led by General Surgery Residency Program Director Darwin Ang, MD, PhD. "We are committed to molding this program into one that we would have chosen to train in ourselves--we are committed to advancing surgical innovations," noted Dr. Ang.
This program will be the third residency program at Ocala Health. The organization began its family medicine and internal medicine residency programs in July 2015 and currently has 16 residents. The Graduate Medical Education program at Ocala Health offers its residents the education and training they need to develop personal, clinical, and professional competence under the guidance and supervision of a highly-knowledgeable faculty and skilled staff.
