Ocala, FL - Ocala Health System announces the appointment of trauma surgeon Alejandro J. Garcia, MD, to its trauma services team at Ocala Regional Medical Center. Dr. Garcia is one of five trauma surgeons who will provide emergent surgical care as part of the medical center’s newly established trauma program.

Dr. Garcia recently completed his fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, and received training at Shands Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center. Dr. Garcia received his medical education at Ponce School of Medicine, Puerto Rico, where he served as class president for four years. He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

Ocala Regional Medical Center is one of eight HCA hospitals affiliated with the USF-HCA Trauma Network. As part of that affiliation, Dr. Garcia will hold a position as Assistant Professor of Surgery with the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Garcia join the trauma service in Ocala,” said Darwin Ang, MD, PhD, FACS, Trauma Medical Director, Ocala Health System. “With his caliber of training and exposure to trauma and critical care, he represents exactly the type of surgeon we are recruiting to build our team. His proven track record in the excellence of patient care, education, leadership, and professionalism will benefit our patients and contribute positively to our medical community.”

Trauma services at Ocala Regional Medical Center are set to launch in mid 2013.
